Alfie Kohn explained that both punishment and rewards are ineffective in motivating students to succeed in their studies.

I think that rewards and punishments are ways of manipulating behavior whichbehaviors that can destroy the potential for original learning.
I believe that real motivation existsemerges when teachers provide curricula that are engaging and create a caring atmospheresatmosphere where children can decide which topics to explore. In this way, students will feel less shame, stress, anger, sadness, competition, and disappointment. They will be more challenged to use their abilities, will feel free to ask for help, and will trust onin themselves when making choices.
